Swan Hill

Start your journey right on the banks of the Murray River in Swan Hill. This bustling hub is renowned for its fresh local produce, sprawling landscapes, native wildlife, and Aboriginal heritage. Experience Australian history first hand when you visit the Pioneer Settlement (125 Monash Drive, Swan Hill VIC). Hop on a horse-drawn coach to explore the village’s cottages and heritage buildings and step aboard the restored PS Gem. Don’t forget to leave with an arm full of old-fashioned lollies from the General Store. Across the road you’ll find the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery (Horseshoe Bend, Swan Hill VIC). It’s worth having a look inside as it has one of Australia’s most comprehensive collections of naive art. Call into Spoons Riverside (125 Monash Drive, Swan Hill VIC) for a memorable dining experience, whether it be for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or afternoon tea. Lake Boga (Murray Valley Highway, Lake Boga VIC), just a short drive south of Swan Hill, is worth a visit if love the outdoors and have time for some aquatic fun. No visit to Swan Hill is complete without a cruise aboard the PS Pyap or taking a selfie with The Giant Murray Cod (139 Curlewis St, Swan Hill VIC).

Piangil, Tooleybuc & Boundary Bend

Travel time: 37 mins
Distance: 52km from Swan Hill

Hit the road again and continue north along the Murray Valley Highway. About a 30-minute drive from Swan Hill, sip some of this region’s best wine at Andrew Peace Wines (4077 Murray Valley Highway, Piangil VIC). Enjoy fine wines and great coffee at the Cellar Door or even get the vineyard’s friendly staff to fire up the pizza oven for you. Make the trek across the river to Tooleybuc. This vibrant community has plenty of attractions to explore. Perhaps spending some leisure time at the Tooleybuc Sporting Club (Lockhart Road, Tooleybuc NSW) for a round of golf or roll on the green or a stroll along the Tooleybuc River Walk (Murray Street, Tooleybuc NSW) might be the perfect break you need. Head back into Victoria, along the Murray Valley Highway. About 5 kilometres upstream from the small town of Boundary Bend, you’ll come across a small sign posted bush track that takes you to the Murrumbidgee-Murray Junction, where two great Australian rivers meet. It’s a great spot if you have your caravan or camper in tow and are keen to camp overnight by the water.

Robinvale & Euston

Travel time: 38 mins
Distance: 43km from Boundary Bend

After a 40-minute drive north from the Junction, you’ll arrive at Robinvale-Euston. The townships of Robinvale and Euston are nestled on opposite banks of the Murray and are a popular spot for water lovers who enjoy relaxing, fishing or birdwatching. A short drive south of Robinvale, plan a stop at Robinvale Wines (243 Robinvale-Sea Lake Road, Robinvale VIC), a unique winery producing organic and bio-dynamic wines. Treat yourself to a tasting in their small quaint cellar door. If it happens to be the second Saturday of the month, make sure to explore the produce stalls at the Robinvale Community Growers Market (Caix Square, Robinvale VIC). Arrive early to fill your calico bag with delicious fresh fruit, sauces, jams, pickles, veggies, and olive oils. While you’re in town, look at the Southern Cross Windmill (McLennan Drive, Robinvale VIC) and the Euston Lock & Weir 15 (Weir Road, Robinvale VIC). Head over the bridge into New South Wales and enjoy a meal right on the banks of the Murray at the Euston Club Resort (9 Murray Terrace, Euston NSW).
